Ruthie's Thoughts: Gratitude is the secret sauce in our life. We discovered that the more we give thanks for all that we have the happier and more fulfilled we are. The idea that everything happens for a reason and our acknowledgement of God being the giver of all is a critical emphasis in Judaism. Because God gave it, it is by definition good. Maybe not easy or pleasurable always but necessary to the fabric and experience of our life as He's created it. The word for good is טוב - it's the same word used in Genesis when God is describing the creation of the world. In Genesis 1:31/בראשית לא after God has created the world he says "And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good"/"וירא אלהים את כל אשר עשה והנה טוב מאד" the use of the word 'good' or 'טוב' is referring to how the world is supposed to unfold and our job is to see it all as God's kindness to us.
Having this verse hanging in our living room serves to remind our entire family that everything happens for the good and we are blessed with so much in our life. Not only does the visual reminder serve to reset my mind but the burst of bright colors exploding off the piece brings light and happiness into our home.
