The festivities of Purim are starting!! This is the holiday we read the Book of Esther and there are so many incredible themes to contemplate and sit with during this time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀The overwhelming theme of Purim is celebrating God's involvement in every aspect of our lives and this world. There is nothing to small, too little, too insignificant for Him to be intimately involved with. ⠀

We love having visitors and first-timers to Israel come visit us in Jerusalem. It’s always fun to ask them what their expectations were of Israel before their trip and then hearing what they’ve experienced during their visit and what matched, didn’t match, and exceeded their expectations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀When I visited Jerusalem for the first time as a college student on a Birthright Israel trip, I was completely unprepared to see a large, modern, bustling city. I had thought that the Old City was the entire Jerusalem. So many expectations I had got turned on it’s head during that trip and the experience was definitely a part of the reason I moved to Israel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Celebrating the holidays in Israel have such a rich sense of meaning to us. There is a tangible sense of pureness in the expression of our faith - it's a total personal thing but that is part of what we love about living in the Holy Land! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Purim is an extremely spiritual day dressed up (pun intended) as a holiday for kids. There is nothing childish about the meaning and significance of the day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀A critical part of the day is the message that God is involved in every aspect of our lives and it's not always going to be in the big flashy miracles (splitting the sea anyone?) but even when life just feels like life and the challenges...
